This entire off-season has revolved around Jon Lester and where he will play in 2015. The final 5 teams with the most interest in Lester are the Giants, Cubs, Red Sox, Yankees, and of course the Dodgers. Where he will end up, who knows?
Now enough about Jon Lester. How about Max Scherzer? Max Scherzer is a big name SP in baseball right now. If the Dodgers don’t happen to get Lester, why not go after Scherzer? Scherzer posted a 3.52 ERA with a 82-35 record in his 5 years in Detroit.
At 30 years old, I believe a 3 or 4 year deal could be good for bother Scherzer and the Dodgers. With Lester, he will most likely get a 7 year deal worth $150 million. With Scherzer, the Dodgers can give him 4 years and no more than $80 million which is clearly in the Dodgers budget. Adding Scherzer to one of the best rotations in baseball would be a huge plus as he would fill in that #3 spot. Kershaw, Greinke, Scherzer, Ryu, and Haren sounds pretty damn good to me.
